The breaking point that I experienced that caused me to seek help at Progressive Therapy Associates, was when my marriage was strained to the limit. Now it was, you had to do something or it's over.
My name is Tom Brusven and I have ADHD.
ADHD would affect my day to day life in various ways, most recently, largely at home rather than work. Work was fairly structured, and things seemed to work very well for me in a structured environment, but at home, it was more of a struggle.
Having ADHD is like sitting in a meeting or something where you're trying to pay attention or sitting at home watching TV and the dog thinks the remote is their squeaker toy and the only thing they're biting is the channel changer, so you're trying to pay attention to the TV show and you cannot stop the channels from changing.
No one ever seems to understand the challenges with ADHD unless you happen to meet somebody who has it.
Therapy here at Progressive Therapy Associates is different from counseling in that they help you identify strategies in a language that makes sense to me having ADHD. The environment at Progressive Therapy Associates is friendly, comfortable, soothing I guess I would even describe it as, but it is very friendly, very inviting, very positive.
I'm extremely glad that I had found Progressive Therapy Associates. They really helped me identify the strategies that make a difference for me in my life.
We see individuals with ADHD, traumatic brain injury, and concussion as well as stroke.
When people think about speech language pathology, they typically think about speech disorders or language challenges, which speech therapists can do, but here, we've just chosen to focus more on the cognitive aspect and when I say that, I mean things to do with focus and memory, speed of processing, planning, problem solving, organization, all those daily skills that help you to really function and organize your life.
If you're someone who's struggling with attention or memory or planning for instance, for a variety of reasons, you can self-refer. You can pick up the phone and call us at 701-356-7766. You can find us on our website and submit your information and come for a free consultation or your primary care doctor can also refer you for treatment at Progressive Therapy Associates.
Free ConsultationDepending on the goals you wish to accomplish and the learning pace that is most comfortable for you, we will arm you with the evidence-based strategies, proven skills, and ample support you need to feel more organized, prepared, and effective. Therapy strategies may range from recommendations for specific tools (such as timers or planners), one-on-one brainstorming and problem-solving to address concerns, therapeutic activities as well as computer trials or worksheets to help strengthen cognitive and executive functions like attention, memory, and planning.
